The grass is always…full of mosquitoes on the other side!

How to get your neighbours to love you with next-generation mosquito control systems

It’s the end of June and a dangerous nuisance looms on the horizon: mosquito eggs. Inactive all winter and most of spring, the eggs begin to hatch in small puddles of water in the garden, in trays under flowerpots on terraces and balconies, and even in the manholes in the street: wet habitats like these are breeding grounds for pesky mosquitoes.

In less than two weeks, larvae will hatch from the eggs and begin to grow, suspended in the water. They’ll turn into pupae and eventually mature completely.

Brace yourself for a true swarm of small maddening insects, ready to infest gardens, terraces and rooms of the house with their bothersome buzzing and itchy bites.

Taking precautions in good time is therefore essential if you want to enjoy summer days and evenings spent outdoors, without having to constantly look over your shoulder (and ankles) for loathsome mosquitoes.

Mosquito problems? A matter of where you stand

In short, mosquito hordes are coming and, like every year, they are sure to outnumber us. Billions of mosquitoes will be born, reproduce and converge on our gardens for their annual feast. They’re kind enough to invite us…as the main dish, of course.

This year, however, something is different.

From your window, you watch your neighbour as he hurriedly installs mosquito nets on doors and windows, set on protecting himself within the four walls of his home for the next three to four months.

His goal? To block mosquitoes from getting inside and at least sleep peacefully.

Then you look at his garden, the soon-to-be encampment of the very mosquitoes which will stop your neighbour from enjoying his gazebo, swimming pool, lounge chairs, barbecue and green lawn all summer, the same one that he’s so carefully tended to the rest of the year. And you’ll find yourself thinking just one thing: What a waste!”

As you think it, you can’t help but smile because this year you won’t have a mosquito problem. Instead, you know perfectly well that the day will come in which your neighbour will look at you from his window, brow furrowed, as you relax in the cool half-shade of your veranda on a summer evening.

You will look back at him and your bliss will turn into a benevolent smile, armed with the automatic mosquito misting system which you had DAZ System install in your garden.

Your goal? To enjoy your garden, day and night, for the entire summer and—why not?—invite your neighbour over to enjoy it too.

Outdoor mosquito control systems: 5 reasons to choose technology

An automatic misting outdoor mosquito control system by DAZ System is an effective solution to the mosquito problem.

It’s so effective because it automates traditional extermination systems thanks to technological applications, making it truly high-performance and one of a kind.

This innovative solution has even proven to be the best commercially available option to radically reduce or completely eliminate these bothersome insects. Moreover, the use of insecticide can be coupled with a mosquito olfactory disruptor which, when combined, not only rid the area of the existing mosquito colonies, but also repel those coming from outside.

It’s a hi-tech and innovative solution which is appreciated for 5 practical reasons:

  • It requires no digging or masonry work on walls to be installed
  • The system is perfectly camouflaged in its surroundings
  • The control unit can be set and operated remotely
  • It actual operation (misting) lasts just a few minutes per day
  • It’s absolutely innocuous for people and pets

The mosquito control system for gardens is there, but you don’t see it

Because outdoor surfaces and spaces are being treated, an expert installer will position the hoses with their relative nozzles around the entire perimeter of the area to treat. That way, the effect is contained within its borders, while also creating an outer barrier which stops other mosquitoes and bothersome insects from entering.

The small hoses and vaporizing nozzles will be as concealed as possible, making use of the available plants (hedges, trees, flowerbeds, etc.) or using pre-existing railings, channels or corrugated conduits, thereby avoiding masonry work or digging.

The control unit will need to be installed in a suitable space that’s near an electrical outlet and a water spigot and, if possible, covered and protected from the elements. It’s therefore very likely that it too will be concealed from view and thus not have any visual impact on the beauty of the garden or the area being treated.

Single parts of the system: the elements which compose the automatic mosquito control system

The process of mixing, transporting and misting the insecticide allows us to understand which elements compose a modern-day mosquito control misting system. So, let’s take a look at every single part and how each one helps optimize the performance of the entire system.

THE CONTROL UNIT

The heart of the system, the DAZ System control unit, has a few features which make it one of a kind, versatile and simple for end users to operate entirely on their own.

  • It can be configured to meet the needs of every context, whether that’s based on the season or the weather. Different misting programmes can be set as required, so as to optimize the amount of product added to the mixture and thereby lower operation costs.
  • It can be set to run automatically according to the weather by connecting the control unit to the weather report of the area where the system is installed. In that way, even without the use of sensors, the operation of the system is automated according to the weather (sun, wind and rain) to prevent wasted product.
  • Electronic mixing: hand mixing is a thing of the past Innovation also means making this step faster, more precise and efficient by optimizing the dose of product used in each spray thanks to system automation.

SOFTWARE

The unique performance of the control unit is made possible by the software installed on the machine, which is able to manage all system models available in the DAZ System catalogue.

The versatility of this software is therefore a strength: it makes it possible for end users to set different programmes on their own, whether standing in front of the control unit or remotely via the web app.

TANKS

Depending on the model, the control unit can be fitted with one or two tanks which hold the mixture. The difference depends on the quantity of the products used in said mixture.

Our single-product mosquito control systems require just one tank. So, in this case, the control unit will be programmed to carry out just one mixture which contains just one specific insecticide and water.

The more advanced systems, on the other hand, use two products and thus can use two different mixtures of insecticides or they can mix the insecticide with natural scents and essential oils which act as olfactory repellents for mosquitoes.

Using two tanks also makes it possible to separate the misting into two independent circuits which aren’t connected. This in turn means it is possible to isolate the effects of two different mixtures to different areas or to expand (doubling, if necessary) the zone covered by a single mixture.

THE MIXTURE

Concentrated DAZ System insecticides are produced and used according to the technical specifications for safety deposited with the Italian Ministry of Health.

Laboratory tests have confirmed that the low doses of insecticide mixed with water as recommended by DAZ System are not harmful to people or pets, despite being lethal for mosquitoes and other small bothersome insects.

In addition to products which eradicate mosquitoes, it is also possible to add small percentages (0.2%) of essential oils and natural fragrances to the mixture. These add-ins are beneficial because they are olfactory repellents for mosquitoes yet their scent is appreciated by people, and they are absolutely harmless in terms of health.

HOSES

The mosquito-controlling misting system includes flexible hoses with a 3 mm diameter which are installed around the entire perimeter and in particularly wet zones within the area to be treated. These hoses carry the mixture to the different zones so that they can be turned into mist.

The hoses come in different colours so that they can be disguised in any setting (plants, walls, railings, etc.): this means that they’re practically invisible and won’t ruin the look of your outdoor space.

THE NOZZLES

The camouflaged hoses are fitted with misting nozzles at regular intervals.

Positioned according to the needs and size of the area, placed at 3-to-4-meter intervals, they make the transformation of the mixture into airborne mist possible. All it takes is misting twice per day (morning and evening, for just a minute each) to eradicate annoying insects for an entire day. The system reaches maximum efficacy after 5-7 days, depending on the weather.

The different models of mosquito control systems vary according to the number of nozzles they include.

The ample possibilities offered by DAZ System range from a minimum of 5 nozzles in the basic system, which covers smaller areas, to a maximum of 180 nozzles on the most advanced system, which covers thousands of square meters and offers a double misting circuit that can distribute two different mixtures.

Programme, mix and mist: the mosquito control system that does it all on its own

Every single element of the system contributes to the goal of automatically misting the product to eliminate mosquitoes, bothersome insects and, in the most evolved systems, even keeping flies and pigeons away.

It should be highlighted that the DAZ System outdoor mosquito control system runs automatically.

The initial set-up of the days and times to spray the mixture, done by the end user, is the only human contribution to the process.

Once the control unit is programmed, it will electronically mix the concentrated product and water according to the recommended doses. As we already mentioned, some systems can also include the addition of fragrances and essential oils to the mixture, which are olfactory repellents for mosquitoes and complementary to the already-effective insecticide.

Once the mixture is ready, a motor pushes it through the flexible hoses. This transports it around the entire perimeter of the area to be treated and to the zones which are particularly prone to mosquitoes within that perimeter, such as flowerbeds and wet areas.

As it’s pumped along, the product reaches the misting nozzles, which are placed at regular intervals around the perimeter. The nozzles turn the liquid into lightweight micro droplets. Once they pass through the nozzle, the mist floats in the air to evenly cover the surface being treated.
